Description | Tableta made from 2 flat wooden sections placed side by side, hinged together with string, and cut out to conform to wearer's head; Corn husk head rest ring is attached at top of cutout; Leather strap attached to sides; Face of Palhik' Mana is painted on front in red, orange, yellow, black, and white on blue background; Cloud symbols in same colors are painted on reverse. Identified in Oct. 1977 by Terrance Talaswaima (Hopi artist and then curator at Hopi Cultural Center) as Pal-Hik Mana, as it would appear during the Butterfly Dance, a summer social dancer sponsored by young men. | |
