Round salad or bread and butter sized plate with flat base and very low, flaring sides; Interior and exterior are scraped very smooth, coated with a clay slip and highly burnished; Design band around interior rim is painted in black matte slip and consists of 4 contiguous elongated triangular units that are laid on their edges along rim; One long side of each triangle is concave and the short end of each one is scalloped; Pair of short negative lines are positioned on each triangle; Overall arrangement produces negative whiling pattern in center of plate; Plate is reduction fired to black-on-black color; Signature "Marie" is incised in script on base. |
