3-dimensional carved figure in standing position, representing Talavai (Early Morning Singer Katsina) who appears in a pair during the Bean Dance and stands at the side of the procession; Figure is shown with hands held out in front; His body is painted white and he wears full head mask with blue face and cloud symbols on cheeks, red tubular nose, and red tab ears; Fan of eagle plumes (here depicted by cardboard cutout) is worn behind mask and spruce ruff (here made of plastic) is worn around neck; Figure wears woven kilt and embroidered sash, actual woven maiden's shawl, two plastic bead necklaces, and red moccasins; In real life, figure would carry small spruce tree in one hand and small bell in other hand. |
