Description | Deep round basket with flat base and sides that flare out on the lower sides and then rise vertically to the rim; Basket is woven in coiled technique over medium-sized bundle coils; Warp fibers are galleta grass stems and weft fibers are finely split natural and vegetal dyed yucca leaves; Band of 8 freestanding quadrupeds (horses?) encircles mid-section of basket, with the animals in alternate colors of black and rust brown; Eyes and mouth of each animal is done in an overlay stitch of undyed and dyed black weft; Above and below the animals is a band of terraced triangles that alternate in yellow and rust brown along their upper sides and in black and white ticking along their lower sides; Overall background is natural sun bleached color. | |
