| Description |
Shallow round sifter basket, woven entirely in plaiting technique (primarily over 3/under 3); Warp material is unbleached split yucca leaves and weft is sun-bleached split yucca leaves; At rim the warps and wefts are folded over a single heavy sumac (?) rod that has been bent to form a continuous ring whose ends overlap slightly, with the yucca fibers held down by a single twined row of yucca leaves; Interior surfaces of yucca leaves (both warps and wefts) are turned toward exterior of basket; Design on interior of basket consists of series of rectangular spirals that interlock in the center, alternating in color between yellow (unbleached yucca) and tan (bleached yucca). |
