Description | Untitled painting on heavy white paper depicting male buffalo dancer shown in 3/4 right profile with his head turned away from viewer; Dancer is dressed in moccasins, leggings, brown leather kilt, red woven sash, black shirt, and buffalo headdress; He is shown bent at the knees and waist and carries bow and arrow in left hand and rattle (?) in right hand; Signature "Aguilar 51" is printed in black ink just below and to right of dancer. (This painting and CAS 0370-0934B, showing a female buffalo dancer, were done as a pair.) Joe Aguilar (Jose Vincente Aguilar) is the son of Rosalie Simbola Aguilar and Joe Aguilar [José Angeles Aguilar] and the brother of Florence Aguilar Naranjo and Alfred Aguilar, all of whose works are also represented in the CAS collection. | |
