| Description | Untitled painting on tan paper depicting male and female dancers from basket dance, both shown standing in full frontal pose; Male dancer on left wears moccasins, black leggings and garters, white embroidered kilt with yellow sash, black shirt with feather (/) collar, and 2 pair of feathers in his hair; Female dancer at right wears moccasins, woven black one-shoulder dress, and lavender shawl and holds coiled basket in left hand and wooden rasp in right hand; Both figures are shown against plain background with no attempt at perspective; Signature "Awa Tsireh" is printed in black ink in lower right corner. Awa Tsireh was the cousin of Margaret Lou Gutierrez, whose work is represented in the CAS pottery collection. | |
