| Description | Painting entitled "Tewa Clowns" depicting 2 Koshare figures cavorting atop ladder projecting from rooftop opening in stone kiva; Both figures are characteristically painted in alternating black and white stripes and are wearing moccasins, breechclouts, and hats with projecting horns to match their body paint; Scene is set against background of large white cumulus cloud and rainbow; Signature "R Naha" is printed in lower right corner; Title is printed in pencil on reverse in upper left corner; Raymond Naha is the great-grandson of Hopi potter, Nampeyo, whose work is also represented in the CAS collections; Raymond Naha's mother, Daisy Hooee, was the daughter of Hopi potter, Annie Healing Nampeyo and granddaughter of Nampeyo. | |
