| Description | Untitled painting depicting Zuni Shalako ceremony; Depicted in center background is Zuni shrine with bird perched on rainbow arch; In center foreground is pair of Koyemsi or Mudhead Katsinam, each wearing black kilt and neckerchief and brown leather case mask; They are flanked on either side by Salimopia Thlian'ona (Blue Warrior of the West) who are dressed in embroidered kilts and turquoise colored case masks that are largely hidden behind collar ruffs of black crow feathers and who serve as guardians of important katsinam; At left and right side of painting is a Shalako impersonator, each wearing Shalako mask and costume and shown in striding position; Signed "Naha" in lower right corner. | |
