Description | Painting on thin tan-colored board entitled "Dance of the Eagle Clan" depicting 3 male dancers, each shown in left profile, bent at the knees and waist and standing in mid-stride; Each dancer wear breechclout with apron in front and back, and roach with 3 eagle plumes in their hair; Lead dancer also wears ankle rattles; Each carries eagle plume in each hand; Signature "Tsa Toke" is printed in blue pencil in lower right corner; "Dance of the Eagle Clan by Monroe Tsatoke" is written in ink on reverse. This painting was exhibited at the National Gallery of Art in January 1942. This painting was selected by Ruth and Charles deYoung Elkus in 1935 as their annual holiday card. | |
