| Description | Untitled painting on white poster board depicting 9 Koshare clowns, two female dancers, and one pueblo man bearing ceremonial staff; Bodies of Koshares are painted black with white stripes; Each wears black breechclout and head cap with two extending horns; Koshare at far left wears brown sheepskin tunic and one at far right plays pueblo-style barrel drum; Female dancers on left end of row wear black one-shoulder pueblo dresses, woven shawls (white with red end bands) and rainbow tabletas and carry feathers in each hand; Man in far right background wears white pants and red shirt and carries long staff with embroidered banner; Signature "Awa Tsireh" is printed in black ink in lower right corner. This painting was selected by Ruth and Charles deYoung Elkus in 1954 as their annual holiday card, printed by the Grabhorn Press in San Francisco. Awa Tsireh was the cousin of Margaret Lou Gutierrez, whose work is represented in the CAS pottery collection. | |
