Description | Pin and/or pendant in the form of a Knifewing Katsina, done in white shell, abalone (?) shell, and tortoise shell in channel inlay technique; Silver loop and hinged hook and clasp are soldered onto reverse for use as pendant or pin, respectively; Pin/pendant is unsigned; This piece was attributed to Leo Poblano in the original Elkus Collection catalog, and noted Indian art dealer Martha Struever, of Santa Fe, NM, suggested this piece might be Poblano’s work on the basis of the black and white sash across the figure’s chest, but the overall design of this piece is completely unlike known Knifewing figures by Poblano. | |
