Description | Set of 7 round ceramic buttons that are concave-convex in cross-section, each with a pair of small round button holes in its center; Both interior and exterior are scraped smooth; Interior is coated with red slip and lightly polished; Exterior is coated with white slip; Painted design on exterior consists of image of roadrunner bird in flight, shown with red body and black feet, tail, wings, and head; Three of the seven buttons are slightly smaller than the others; Five of the buttons show the roadrunner facing to the right, while the other two show it facing to the left; Buttons are unsigned. These were probably made by Zia Pueblo students at the Santa Fe or Albuquerque Indian Schools | |
