Description | Rectangular berry gathering basket with flat base and deep, flaring sides, woven in coiling technique over foundation of cedar splints; Primary weft material is cedar roots; Designs are woven of natural (red) and dyed (black) cherry bark and natural straw-colored bear grass and are woven in ribbon beading and imbrication techniques; Designs include band of imbricated V-shaped motifs and a single vertical bar around mid-section but only on ends and one side of basket; Upper half of basket is decorated with three narrow strands of dyed cherry bark and bear grass beaded along each coil (most coils on back side only have 1 or 2 decorative strands); Single row of imbricated fibers frame rim on all four sides; Series of cotton string loops is tied along rim on each long side of basket. | |
