Description Tapa beater carved from single piece of wood into elongated rectangular shape that tapers slightly along its entire length toward the proximal end; Both ends are slightly rounded; Handle at the proximal end is cylindrical in shape, accounts for approximately one-third of the total length, and is slightly expanded in diameter at the proximal end; One of the flat faces used for actually beating the bark to make tapa is completely undecorated, while the other three are all similarly carved with 8 to 10 widely spaced and deeply incised, parallel grooves; Narrow decorative band at junction between beating surfaces and handle is decorated with series of incised cross-hatch lines.
