Description | 3-dimensional carved figurine in seated position, representing Hümis Kachin' Mana (Hümis Katsina girl, aka Hümis Kachin' Mana), who most often accompanies Hemis Katsina, but also appears with and takes the name of other Katsinam; She sits on sheepskin pelt and holds rasp and painted gourd in left hand and sheep scapula in right hand to provide musical accompaniment for Niman dance; She wears carved and painted black dress and white maiden's shawl with red borders; Her yellow face mask has carved and painted feather beard, rainbow band above beard, and painted red wig falling across her eyes; Her carved and painted hair is worn in the style of an unmarried girl with traditional Hopi whorls; Turquoise-colored plastic simulates turquoise tab earrings; Single white feather is tied in hair. | |
