Description Fragment of a totem pole carved from single piece of argillite; Extant figures include small human head at base which overlaps mouth of bear head (human does not appear as if being grasped by bear); Bear’s features include prominent eyes, nostrils and mouth, and small ears at sides; Sitting atop the bear is an eagle, seated between the bear’s ears with its wings held at its sides and with an eye motif depicted on each wing; Broken surface atop eagle’s head indicates that originally the eagle probably wore a crown or headdress of some sort; Reverse side of carving is uncarved except for plain, convex groove that apparently ran entire length of totem pole; Despite its similar catalog number, this fragment does not appear ever to have been part of CAS 0464-0012B.
