Description Totem pole carved in 3’4 round from single piece of argillite; Starting from bottom, figures represented include a bear with prominent eyes, nose with rectangular socket for decorative inset or for attaching separate carved piece; Below the bear is pair of wing-like motifs, suggesting bear is wearing a blanket or cape; Above the bear is depicted a beaver with prominent eyes, nose, bared teeth, and short ears; and at top of pole is human figure with prominent eyes, nose, and down-turned mouth and shown holding pair of coppers to his breast and wearing a single crown hat; Shallow lip around base of pole suggests it was originally mounted on argillite or wooden base; Reverse side of hat atop top figure is notched, suggesting additional decoration originally.
