| Description | Crystal Navajo-style rug, woven entirely in tapestry weave; Borderless design consists of three horizontal bands of chevrons in white and three shades of brown (dark, medium, and rust) on a light brown background, alternating with four wider plain bands, each of which actually consists of 8 or 9 narrow 2-color bands that are woven in the wavy “Crystal-style†weave; Dark brown plainweave band completes the design at each end; Twining and selvage cords are woven of contrasting dark brown wool yarns; This rug design is probably based upon a Wide Ruins style rug illustrated in Plate 25 of Posts and Rugs by H. L. James (1976: Globe, AZ: Southwest Parks and Monuments Assoc., p. 80) and in Plate 30 of the later revised version, renamed Rugs and Posts by H. L. James (1988, West Chester, PA: Schiffer Publishing Co.). | |

| Description | Non-regional Navajo-style rug, woven entirely in tapestry weave; Borderless design consists of 5 horizontal design bands alternating with 6 plain bands; Design bands at each end feature row of 3 open blue diamonds, while remaining three design bands each feature row of blue chevrons, all on plain white backgrounds; Four of the plain bands actually include a narrow band woven in a beading technique, using indigo blue and white colors, bordered in indigo blue and cochineal pink and wider bands of light brown; Plain bands at either end of rug are simply narrow plainweave bands in cochineal pink, indigo blue, and light brown; Twining cords are woven in contrasting cochineal pink wool yarns; Selvage cords are lacking on this rug; This rug was copied from an old rug that was found under the dog’s bed at Crystal Trading Post when a new owner took over in the late 1980s. | |
