A: Commercially produced white porcelain mug with straight sides and single loop handle on side, imprinted on side with scene of Eskimo winter cache including a log hut built on stilts, two sled dogs staked to poles, and a skin boat turned over atop a wooden rack; Artist's signature "Ahgupuk" is imprinted in lower right corner of scene, and word "Alaska" is imprinted on opposite side of mug; Manufacturer's hallmark consisting of a British flag and the word "DURABILITY" across it, along with "WEATHERBY HANLEY ENGLAND ROYAL FALCONWARE" is imprinted in gold-colored ink on base; B: Companion white porcelain saucer imprinted with "Alaska" along its rim and with the same hallmark on the base imprinted in green ink, and with the additional notation, "1-70." [The firm of John Henry Weatherby & Sons was founded in 1891 in Tunstall and relocated the following year to Hanley in Staffordshire, England. The trademark name "Falconware" was adopted around 1925. The firm ceased operations in 2000.] |

Napkin or letter holder made from two cross-section pieces of pine or birch that have been trimmed along one edge, sanded smooth on all surfaces and edges, and then mounted side by side with wood screws to rectangular wooden base; Front of first cross-section wood piece is painted (or possibly mechanically imprinted) with scene of man in kayak approaching a sea mammal in the water; Man has his spear poised; Signature "Robert Mayokok" is written (or imprinted) in script along bottom edge; Outside face of second cross-section wood piece is stamped or incised with word, "ALASKA"; Underside of base is stamped "ALCRAFT ALASKA"; All wooden surfaces are varnished. |
