Description | Small round basket with flat base, vertical sides, high shoulder with recessed rim, and corresponding lid with slightly domed center and low sides that fit over basket's rim; Basket start is woven in plain plaiting technique, using cedar splints for both the warp and weft; Outer portion of base is woven in plain twining technique, using rye grass stems for the weft; Sides of basket and entire lid are woven in wrapped twining technique, using bear grass leaves for the weft; At the rim, a single wide cedar splint is added to form the rim and warp fibers are bent over and bound under the final row of twining; Designs on sides of basket consist of single black encircling band on lower sides and four full-figure images of black ducks with red feet around sides; Design on lid consists of large black circular design with serrated outer edges in center of lid, and plain black band along rim. | |
