Description | Pitchfork made from a single tree branch that has been cut at both ends and completely peeled; Proximal end includes a V-shaped juncture of two branches, with one cut off very short to form a hook while the other forms the main shaft of the fork; Distal end includes a Y-shaped juncture of two branches, both of which have been cut off very short; According to field notes, this fork was first used to replace the wood and dirt in a grave when a man was buried, but by 1977 it was being used only to repair or build fences. | |
