Description Deep round basket with flat base and sides that flare outward on lower sides and then rise nearly vertically to the rim; Basket is woven in coiled technique over medium-sized bundle coils; Very small coil-wrapped loop is woven into rim coil; Warp material is galleta grass stems and weft material is natural and aniline-dyed split yucca leaves; Band of 6 katsina masks (3 Nuvak' chin' mana [Snow Katsina Girl] and 3 Angwusnasomtaka [Crow Mother]) encircles mid-section of basket; Snow Katsina Girl's mask is outlined in black and includes black hair whorls, small rust-brown motif atop her head, and pair of black vertical lines beneath each eye; Her eyes and a band across her beard are woven in overlay stitches; Crow Mother's face was probably originally green (now faded to yellow) and her headdress is rust brown, black and green, and her side wings and hourglass design in the center of her face are black; Portions of her facial design and a band across her beard are woven in overlay stitches; Above and below the katsina masks is a rectilinear zigzag band (rust brown or red outlined in black); Designs are all woven on a natural sun bleached background.
