Description | Very deep round basket (probably woven for sale as a waste basket) with flat base and slightly flared sides, woven in coiled technique over a bundle foundation; Warp material is split cattail stems and primary weft material is peeled and split willow shoots; The designs are woven of black devil's claw pods and include a small circle in the center of the base, encircled by two bands of widely spaced dashes; Sides of basket are divided into equal-sized upper and lower registers, with each one containing an outlined Greek fret pattern; Final rim coil is decorated with a false braid overstitch done in black devil's claw. | |
