Description | Round basket with flat base and slightly flaring sides that rise to a wide, round mouth; Basket is woven in coiled technique over a single rod foundation; Warp material is willow shoots and weft material is willow roots; Weaving stitches are very uneven because of consistent splitting of the warp rods with each succeeding row of coiling; Two native-tanned leather loops are attached opposite each other at the rim and each is coil-wrapped with willow roots; 4 large diameter black glass beads and 5 similarly sized redheart beads are woven into the weft in a band around the lower sides, and 10 small hanks of dyed blue cotton string are arranged in a band around the mid-section, with each hank sewn to the basket with brown string. | |
