Description Carved figure in action dance pose, representing Wupa' Ala (Long-horned Katsina) who usually appears in mixed dances; His brown body is painted in yellow on shoulders, forearms, and lower legs; His hands and area between waist and knees are painted in white; He wears black felt breechclout with blue felt belt and rabbit skin tail, carved and painted brown moccasins with black and white leather cuffs, yarn wristlet and bandolier sash, felt armbands, and leather bow guard; Case mask is brown on back and green on front with black and white neck ruff, red tab ear on left and green horn on right; Synthetic black hair and small feathers crown top of mask; Figure carries carved rattle in right hand and buckskin pouch in left hand; He is mounted on wooden disk, signed on base by artist. Ernest Chapella was the husband of Bonnie Nampeyo who is the great-great-granddaughter of Nampeyo, the granddaughter of Rachel Namingha Nampeyo, the daugther of Priscilla Nampeyo Namingha, the sister of Rachel Nampeyo Sahmie Talashie, the niece of Dextra Nampeyo Quotsquyva, and the cousin of Hisi Nampeyo, all of whose works are also represented in the CAS collection.
