Description | 3-dimensional carved figure in standing position, representing Koyemsi (Mudhead), who appears in nearly every Hopi dance, either as part of a group or alone as a drummer; His body is painted brown and he wears a carved and painted black kilt, black leggings, white moccasins, black cloth kerchief around his neck, red glass bead bracelet on right wrist, leather and glass bead bow guard on left wrist; He carries a floral-print pouch with wool yarn strap over right shoulder; Brown sack mask has knob-like projection at each side and in back and conical projection on top, as well as tubular pop-out eyes and beak-like mouth; Trimmed gray feather is tied to each knob and mouth; He carries rattle in right hand and large feather in left hand. | |
