Description | 3-dimensional carved figure in standing position, representing Hon (Bear Katsina), who appears in mixed dances and is considered very powerful and able to cure the sick; His body is painted completely white, except for oval areas on chest and back and on both arms and legs, which are black outlined in red; He wears carved and painted gold-colored kilt, white dance sash, fox skin tail, brown moccasins, and black felt breechclout; He also wears red bead bracelet and necklace, leather and bead bow guard, and white fleece armbands; White case mask has red tab ears, (with gray feather through each one), extended snout, white fleece neck ruff and hair on top and back of mask, and black bear print painted on each cheek; He carries red gourd rattle in outstretched right hand. | |
