Description |
3-dimensional carved figure in standing position, representing Mastop (Death Fly Katsina) who appears only on Second Mesa and Third Mesa and represents a prayer for fertility among Hopi women from dead Hopi ancestors; Figure's body is painted black and decorated all over with large white hand prints; He wears carved and painted black kilt and brown moccasins and carries rattle in right hand and indeterminate object in left hand; Neck ruff is made of green wool yarn; Black sack mask has round painted white eyes and mouth and white cotton string tassel (similar to those on Hopi wedding robe) on each side of head, and white frog painted on back of mask; Several feathers are tied to top of mask. |
