Description Oval-shaped handheld shield made from single piece of hide which is formed into shallow saucer shape and lashed along outer edges to pair of wooden rods which overlap at opposite ends of the shield; Heavy wooden handle in the form of a recurved bow extends down center of shield on reverse and is secured by continuous hide lace that is threaded through front of shield at regular intervals; Center of shield is reinforced on reverse with small additional piece of hide; Front of shield is painted with double line of crescent shapes down center, 3 parallel rows of small contiguous triangles along one edge, and large crescent shape, star-like motif and "M" or "W" motif along opposite edge; All painted designs are in rust brown or black on white background.
