Description Small round basket with flat base, vertical sides and recessed rim, along with corresponding round, flat-topped lid with low sides that fit over basket's rim; Warp material is unidentified grass stems; Basket start in center of base is woven in simple plaiting technique, using flattened grass stems as both the warp and weft; Most of the base is woven in plain twining technique, using rye grass stems as the weft, with a single row at the junction of the base and sides woven in 3-strand twining; Sides of basket are woven in wrapped twining, using bear grass leaves as the weft; Single cedar bark slat encircles top of basket, forming a recessed rim, over which the warps are bent and bound into the final row of twining; Single row of 3-strand twining and one of plain twining below cedar slat and 2 rows of plain twining above slat all use rye grass stems as the weft; Start of lid is woven in plain twining technique, using dyed purple rye grass stems; Remainder of lid is woven in wrapped twining technique, using bear grass leaves as the weft; Designs are woven of dyed bear grass leaves and include dark blue or black band around lower sides and pair of parallel dashed lines alternating yellow and maroon around mid-section; Designs on lid include purple center, with concentric bands in purple and undyed weft, and red and yellow on top of lid, and dark blue or black band around sides of lid.
