Description Large deep rectangular basket with rounded corners, flat base and flaring sides, woven in coiled technique over a bundle foundation; Warp material is cedar splints and primary weft material is cedar roots; Three leather carrying loops on upper exterior sides (2 on one side and 1 on the opposite side) are threaded through sides of basket and knotted on interior; Designs consist of 8 narrow horizontal and parallel bands that completely encircle basket on exterior, beginning on the lower sides all the way up to, and including, the final rim coil; Each design band comprises long segments of natural brown-red cherry bark that are woven in ribbon beading technique, interrupted by 10 shorter and regularly spaced segments that are woven in the imbrication technique, using mud-dyed black cherry bark in the center, flanked by undyed bear grass leaves or reed stems; The segments in each band are all vertically aligned with those in the other bands.
