Description | Mold-impressed hollow clay figurine of Otafuku (also known as Okame or Uzume), the goddess of mirth, shown seated and wearing a red undergarment and a blue print kimono, and holding a matsutake or mushroom, whose phallic shape is further accentuated here by painting black hairs around its base; The sexual nature of this figurine is further revealed with the exposure of her own genitalia beneath her kimono; The following information is written in Japanese script on back of figurine: "December, 1976, 8th Obata Tuchi Ningyo maker - Bunzo Hosoi (65 years old)."; Portion of figurine’s kimono on reverse is left unpainted. | |
