Description Modeled clay figurines of 2 reclining deer (1 buck, and 1 doe), each painted brown with black and white body markings; Small monkey is seated on rump of buck; Small willow twigs inserted into buck's head represent antlers; All mounted on rectangular wooden base that is painted black; Miyajima is one of Japan’s 3 most famous scenic spots, once noted for its deer and monkeys; Monkeys no longer exist there, so this toy commemorates the time when they did.
