| Description | Animated toy in the form of a carousel, in which four paper “dancers†dressed in black and white costumes stand on wooden crossbars, all beneath a round yellow paper roof with red banner around its perimeter; Carousel roof is mounted on bamboo rod which extends down through along piece of split bamboo; Shorter bamboo crossbar is secured in split of larger bamboo piece and string is tied to one end of crossbar, stretched forward and wrapped around carousel’s support rod, and then back to the opposite end of the bamboo crossbar; When either end of the crossbar is moved forward or backward, it causes the carousel to rotate; Possible shrine name is written in Japanese script on piece of wood that locks the split ends of the bamboo piece in place; Date is written on underside of split bamboo piece. | |
