Materials Cedar (Cedrus sp.) bark splints; Rye grass (Elymus sp.) stems; Bear grass (Xerophyllum tenax) leaves; Aniline dyes
Description Small round basket with flat base, vertical sides, high shoulder with recessed rim, and corresponding round flat lid with low sides that fit over the basket's rim; Warp material is cedar bark splints; Base is woven in plain twining technique, using rye grass stems as the weft; Sides of basket and entire lid are very finely woven in wrapped twining technique, using bear grass leaves as the weft; Single wide cedar splint is added at rim to form recessed rim, and warps are bent over it and bound into final row of twining; Designs on sides of basket include two registers of isolated words and letters; Lower register reads "THE WHITE LYLE THE" with lower border of blue and orange bands; Upper register reads "HITE WAL"; Registers are separated by double band of orange dashes on blue background; Designs on top and sides of lid include several concentric blue and orange bands.
