Description Papier mâché folk toy of a lion’s head made around a wooden frame; Painted red with black brows and pupils, gold eyes and gold details around mouth; Nostril holes are cut out; Seven tufts of hair are inserted across the top of the head and held in place with glue or wax; Hair hangs over the lion’s face; Lower jaw is connected to the wooden frame by a piece of leather; String attached to the jaw and frame moves the jaw up and down; Paper tag on back of frame reads “Made in JAPAN.”
