Description Round burden basket with flat bottom and slightly flared, vertical sides, woven entirely in 3-strand twining technique over paired warps; Two rows (approx. 1/3 up from base) are woven in 3-strand twining over 4 warps; Warp material is whole willow (?) shoots and primary weft material is peeled and split willow shoots; Two heavier serviceberry (?) rods are crossed on interior base and continue up sides as staves for extra support; Warps are bent over at rim and wrapped; Final reinforcing rod around rim is wrapped in leather; Designs on exterior of basket consist of 3 wide parallel bands; Lowest band is woven of dyed red willow shoots, while two upper bands are of natural and dyed red willow shoots and black devil's claw; Leather strips cover staves on exterior and are joined to leather covering on base; Leather fringes are pendant from 4 groups along rim; 3 groups each on stave covering, and from entire perimeter of leather covering on base.
