Description | Woman's hat with slightly flattened crown and rounded sides, woven entirely in plain twining in full twist overlay technique; The primary warp and weft material is tule stems; Secondary weft material is Indian hemp cordage used for the basket start, undyed (straw colored) and dyed (black) skin of cattail rush leaves used for background overlay material and designs, respectively; Designs include two concentric dashed bands on base, diagonally stacked parallelograms with each parallelogram containing a pair of negative bars (entire motif repeated 3 times on side of hat), and dash band just below rim. | |
