Description | Pair of papier mâché figurines depicting the masked men who lead the parade of portable shrines from the Achi Shrine of Kurashiki City, held on the third Saturday and Sunday of October; The masks depict an elderly man and woman, each standing in a bent over position and waving paper fans imprinted with the word “Kurashiki; Each figurine has a bobbing head and is dressed in dark brown pants and a sleeveless blue jacket with a yellow belt around their waists and orange cross-straps on their backs, just as the men would appear in the parade; A type-written explanatory sheet relating the story behind these figurines can be found in the accession folder. | |
