Description | Pair of dolls, each dressed in a kimono and obi and fashioned entirely from folded sheets of chiyogami (patterned) and irogami (solid colored) paper; First doll wears a brown and white vertically striped kimono with a blue, white, and gold obi that is wrapped around her waist and hangs down in the back; Second doll wears a red kimono with horizontal white stripes and a pink obi that is wrapped around her waist and hangs down at the back; Each doll has long black hair that hangs down over the shoulders in front and back; Dolls of this type are especially popular around the time of Hina Matsuri, observed on March 3 and sometimes referred to as Girls Day, although its history and traditions are much more complex. | |
