Description | Small round basket with flat base and vertical sides; Basket is woven in alternating rows of simple plaiting and plain twining, except for narrow band (approx. 1.5 cm wide) around rim which is woven entirely in plain twining; Single row of 3-strand twining is also present at juncture of base and sides; Warp rods are bent over at rim and bound under in a false braid; At juncture of base and sides, most warp rods on base are split into two smaller warp rods; Warp and weft material is spruce roots; Plain twined band around rim may have originally shown a decorative design of dyed weft, but is now faded to a uniform brown; Two small commercial cloth loops are sewn with thread opposite each other to interior of rim. | |
