Description | Small round barrel-shaped basket with flat base, rounded sides, and high shoulder with short rim, and corresponding round lid with slightly domed top and low sides that fit over basket's rim; Entire basket and lid are woven in wrapped twining technique, using cedar bark as the warp and bear grass leaves as the weft; Base of basket is woven more coarsely than sides and lid; Single cedar splint forms rim and warp fibers are bent over it and bound into final row of twining; Designs on sides of basket include band of small alternating blue and straw-colored parallelograms around mid-section, flanked above and below by narrow bands of straw colored dots on blue background; Designs on lid consist of small blue floral motif in center, encircled by two blue bands near outer edges. | |
