Description Pair of lacquered papier mache figurines depicting the seated Emperor and Empress, both on low wooden platforms; The Emperor wears a dark blue undergarment and a light blue outer robe, with red lining along the cuffs; A small black hat sits atop his black hair, and he holds a gold staff in front of himself in clenched hands; His platform is painted white or pale yellow, except for the front which is decorated with a series of small orange squares; Artist’s signature is printed in gold paint on reverse side of figure; The Empress wears a coral-colored undergarment and a blue gray outer robe with coral colored trim around the collar and down the front; She wears a gold hat or crown atop her hair and holds an open gold fan at her front; Her platform is painted orange and the front edge is decorated with a series of orange X’s inside black squares; Artist’s signature is printed in black paint on reverse side of figure.
