Description | Pair of nearly identical dolls carved on a lathe and assembled from several pieces, in contrast to traditional kokeshi dolls which are carved in one piece; Each doll consists of a base, a body, and a head which is mounted on a wooden dowel at a slightly titled angle; A wears a kimono decorated with hexagrams and black trim, and sports short black hair tied with a white painted ribbon; Artist’s signature is printed in black ink on base; B wears a kimono decorated with overlapping gold crescents and red trim and has short hair that is piled atop the head in a small knot. | |
