Description | Very shallow bowl carved from a single piece of wood in the shape of a stylized long-necked bird with short tail and folded wings, all supported on a short and narrow cylindrical pedestal with flaring base; Color is dark brown. A similar example in the Fiji Museum in Suva, Fiji Islands was collected between 1857 and 1861 on Viti Levu Island and is described as a “priestly bowl.†(See referenced publications.) | |
