Description Small semi-flattened canteen with rounded base, short round neck, and two perforated lug handles on upper shoulders; Exterior is scraped smooth and completed covered with white slip; Front of canteen is painted with central orange diamond shape, surrounded by two stylized parrot images in black and orange, all framed within two black circles; Pair of narrow black lines encircle neck just below rim, and heavy black line covers the rim; Artist’s signature “Lucy M. Lewis Acoma” is printed in black letters on reverse side of canteen. Noted Acoma potter Lucy Martin Lewis is the mother of grandmother of many well-known potters. She is the mother of Anne Lewis Hansen and the mother-in-law of Rita Lewis, both of whose works are also represented in the CAS pottery
