Description | Medium sized jar with flat base and flaring lower sides that rise to a high shoulder, then slope inward gently before flaring out again to form a short constricted neck, terminating in a very wide mouth; Portion of shoulder and neck has been cut away to form a kiva step cutout; Interior and exterior surfaces are scraped and sanded smooth and coated with a terra cotta-colored slip; Flecks of mica from the underlying clay still shine through; Except for rim cutout, jar is completely undecorated; Artist’s signature “Fransis B Tesuque Pueblo 6/27” is incised on base. This jar was awarded a second place ribbon at the 76th Annual Santa Fe Indian Market in 1997. | |
