Description | Handheld dance rattle consisting of a small round gourd filled with seeds or small pebbles, with a short wooden handle inserted into a cutout hole; Attached to the end of the handle is a wooden (?) disk wrapped in floral print cloth whose ends are gathered on the bottom and wrapped around the rattle handle and held in place by a spiral wrapping of rattan; Numerous undyed chicken feathers are laid side by side around top perimeter of cloth-covered disk so they hang over its edge; Each feather is likely glued into place and then all of the quills of the feathers are covered with a round piece of Samoan tapa cloth. | |
