Materials Willow (Salix sp.) shoots; Red willow (Salix bonplandiana ?) shoots
Description Deep cylindrical basket with rounded base and vertical sides, woven in plain twining technique at the start, and then in diagonal twining for the remainder of the basket; Warps are bent over at rim and incorporated into reinforcing bundle that is coil-wrapped; Warp material is whole, unpeeled willow shoots and weft material is split unpeeled willow shoots that are woven with the bark side facing inward; Designs are woven of split, unpeeled red willow shoots and consist of 3 bands of alternating dark and light diagonal bars (woven of red willow with bark facing outward and other willow with bark facing inward, respectively) that encircle sides of basket; Final two rows of twining below rim are woven with the bark side of the willow facing outward; Coil wrapping on rim bundle alternates light (split willow with bark facing inward) and dark (red willow with bark facing outward) blocks of color.
