Description | Large round jar-shaped water bottle with concave base, rounded sides, and high broad shoulder that tapers inward to a wide tall neck with flaring rim; Basket is woven primarily in plain diagonal twining, with two rows each of 3-strand twining on base and at shoulder; Warp material is whole unpeeled willow shoots and primary weft material is unpeeled split willow shoots, with the bark turned toward interior of basket; Warp rods are bent over at rim and included in a coil that is partially wrapped with peeled and split cottonwood (?) shoots and partially with black devil's claw; Two V-shaped wooden handles are attached vertically across shoulder with additional cottonwood (?) fibers; Basket was never covered with traditional coating of piñon pine pitch. | |
